PC Cases
3 Things to consider when buying a PC Case.
1. Airflow & Cooling Configuration
- Why it matters: Gaming components like GPUs and CPUs generate a lot of heat. Poor airflow leads to thermal throttling and reduced performance.
-
What to look for: Mesh front panel for unrestricted air intake (e.g., Phanteks P400A, Cooler Master NR600).
- Support for at least 3x 120mm or 2x 140mm intake fans.
- Room for top-mounted exhaust fans or 240mm/360mm AIO liquid radiators.
- Tip: Avoid cases with solid front panels unless they have large side ventilation.
2. GPU, Cooler & PSU Clearance
- Why it matters: A tight case can prevent your components from fitting or block airflow.
-
What to check: GPU length support: For high-end GPUs like the RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT, ensure the case supports 330–400mm GPU clearance.
- CPU cooler height: For large air coolers (e.g., Noctua NH-D15), check for 165mm+ clearance.
- PSU support: Most full-size ATX power supplies require 160–180mm of space, plus room for cables.
- Example: The Lian Li Lancool II Mesh supports GPUs up to 384mm and CPU coolers up to 176mm.
3. Expansion, Storage & Cable Management
- Why it matters: Clean cable routing improves airflow and aesthetics, and space for drives allows future upgrades.
-
What to look for:
- Removable SSD/HDD trays and tool-less drive mounts.
- PSU shroud and 23mm+ behind the motherboard tray for cable management.
- Enough clearance for modern GPUs with vertical mounting support (if preferred).
- USB-C or USB 3.2 Gen 2 front panel ports for future-proofing.
