Memory
3 key things to consider when choosing RAM for PC gaming:
-
Capacity (How Much RAM You Need)
For modern gaming, 16GB is the sweet spot for most titles, while 32GB is ideal for multitasking, streaming, or running intensive mods. Less than 16GB can bottleneck performance in newer games. -
Speed and Latency
RAM speed (measured in MT/s – megatransfers per second) affects data transfer rates. For gaming, DDR4 3200MT/s or faster, or DDR5 5600MT/s+ (if supported), delivers smoother performance. Lower CL (CAS latency) also improves responsiveness, especially in CPU-bound scenarios. -
Compatibility with Motherboard and CPU
Make sure your motherboard supports the RAM type (DDR4 vs. DDR5), the capacity, and the speed you're buying. Also, check for dual-channel support, which boosts performance when using RAM in matched pairs (e.g. 2x8GB instead of 1x16GB).
